Born in Athens Greece in an environment of classic aesthetics, Tina Psoinos persued the study of Fine Arts and worked on a Masters in Photography in the United States States, studying under the Master Photographer Roy DeCarava. She resides in New York City.

Layers Desigual, Tina Psoinos’s current body of works, follows a compositional theme characterized in the significance of the term “Desigual” meaning unequal or uneven.

Our eye embraces a familiar element provided by the artist and simultaneously, as if by association of thought, we are presented with another adjacent layer, seemingly born from an equal subject.

But then we are surprised when the composition can disclose another underlying layer of concept, proving that the two elements perhaps were never equal to begin with, but we had perceived them as such only through an act of artistry.

In the surfaces made up of unequal layers of mediums and techniques, photographic images, sketching, painterly gestures, newsprint and various textures, the works allow us to focus into another way of perceiving a subject, sometimes familiar, or sometimes strange. Simultaneously, we are also privileged with the awareness of elements that can be disclosed by layers that lie behind the surfaces.

A harmony is created from the desigual layers composed within the artistry of these pieces. We have realized that we’ve transcended a moment from our habitual understanding of a subject, a texture or a color without ever having to move beyond the reality that we share with these artworks, these Layers Desigual.
