May 16th, 2012
Tonight, the Angel Orensanz Foundation will host the 2012 New York City Benefit put on by Yaddo, an artists’ residency program located on a 400-acre estate in Saratoga Springs, NY. The benefit dinner will honor Patricia Towers, a beloved figure from the world of publishing who has had a transformative impact on Yaddo.
In addition to the guest of honor, there will be the final auction bidding for “Paper Trails,” a unique auction of manuscripts, sketches, notes, and drafts from selected artists. Some of the featured items in “Paper Trails” are an early sketch by Frecon for her oil painting bloodstone/Dust; a page from Roth’s notebook while writing The Humbling and Nemesis; a handwritten score from Del Tredici’s Pulitzer Prize-winning In Memory of a Summer Day; and a handwritten first draft of the first two pages of Egan’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel A Visit From the Goon Squad. Please see Yaddo’s Auction Catalogue for a complete list and images of available auction items.
Performance artist Mike Albo – the man The New York Times called “the ultimate satirist of the downtown New York social landscape” – will emcee this special celebration honoring Towers and Yaddo. The program is also set to feature Albo’s fellow Yaddodians Jonathan Ames, Noah Baumbach, Michael Cunningham, Amy Hempel, Walter Kirn, and Rosemary Mahoney.
Please join us in saluting Patricia Towers Wednesday, May 16th, at the Angel Oresanz Foundation, 172 Norfolk Street, New York, New York . The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails, followed by dinner and a program at 8 p.m. Purchase reservations here.
